Full Description:
Singing, dance, choreography, blocking and stage production are just a few of the skills area residents are learning as they prepare for an upcoming production of Annie at the Cameo Theatre in Downtown San Antonio.
Among the most beloved musicals, Annie tells the story of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
The cast features over 30 residents from the local community. “While the practices are long and learning all of the songs and dance routines is tough, I can’t wait until the show opens,” said nine year old Ashley Heath, who is part of the chorus. “We get to be involved in all aspects of the production, from singing and dancing to costuming and set production.”
Directed by Amanda Van Eaton, of Shooting Starz productions, Annie features memorable scores including “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “NYC,” and the ever optimistic “Tomorrow.” Four shows are scheduled from Friday, July 10th through Sunday July 12th.
