Café Mariposa offers a one-of-a-kind menu with some intriguing combinations of ingredients. A few of the entrées include Spanish shellfish and chicken paella, braised lamb shank with Spanish sherry, and smoked lobster and sweet corn chile rellenos with Oaxacan cheese and mole verde. The bar offers an array of Latin-inspired drinks, including sangrias, mojitos, margarita martinis, as well as an extensive wine list of American and Spanish wines.
In keeping with the theme, even the desserts have a Latin spin – like the ancho chili Mexican chocolate cake or the ruby-red grapefruit pie. (“It’s a Texas version of key-lime pie,” says West.) The Cajeta Cheese Cake features a warm Mexican caramel center.
If the sweets are so tempting you find it hard to choose, sample a variety by ordering the Cafe’s dessert tapas. You’ll get a taste of butterscotch crème brûlée, chambord chocolate mousse, Mexican Hot Chocolate, and toasted coconut crusted ice cream. Top it off with a Godiva cappuccino, made from Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and Vanilla Vodka.
